Say Cheese with The Smiler and Goodfellas at Alton Towers

On Sunday we were invited along to Alton Towers to test out ‘The Smiler’ and the first ever selfie-powered vending machine!

The vending machine popped up in the weekend to celebrate the launch of Goodfella’s new pizza, ‘The Smiler’, named after the park’s newest roller coaster.

Being 12 weeks pregnant and terrified of heights, going upside down and speed means I’m not exactly the best candidate for checking out an extreme rollercoaster, so we took along my brothers, who love the big rides.

‘The Smiler’ is the worlds first 14-loop rollercoaster. Just looking at it terrified me!! The kids and me sat outside the ride compound whilst my brothers and the other half queued. There was a slight technical issue whilst they were waiting and then when they were at the front of the queue someone was sick, so the ride had to be paused for a short time.

The sounds that come from the ride are terrifying. Every so often an eerie giggle could be heard above the screams. All we could see from the outside was a huge tangle of loops, twists and turns. Absolutely not one for the faint hearted!

The guys said it was a fantastic ride – the best one by far at Alton Towers, and even queued up to go on it again.

On our way out of the park, we stopped off to take a selfie at the huge vending machine, in return for a free ‘The Smiler’ pizza. I sent our photo to @Goodfellas_UK on Twitter, using #goodfellassmiler, and out popped a perfectly frozen pizza.

The deep pan pizza is topped with spicy sausage and hot jalapenos to really blow your mind. It’s definitely not one for the kids but one that will certainly be found in our freezer in the future!!
